Where Christ is
One of our major goals with Brushfires is to reach out to hurting people. The “why” of this is quite simple. We want to be where Christ is. Jesus suffers with those who suffer and it is our responsibility to make sure hurting people know they are not alone.
This was brought home for me in a powerful way this week at the Stations of the Cross shrine in San Luis, Colorado. At Station XI, Jesus is nailed to the cross. On a plaque nearby was Psalm 22, which contains the words Jesus uttered from the cross. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me.” For everyone who has ever wondered where God is or shook his fist angrily at the silent God, Jesus was at that place first, waiting to receive God’s beloved but struggling son or daughter. As the body of Christ on earth, we must be first on the scene for those who straggle in wounded and weary.
